Chapter Six -- Richmond-Llandovery

1955 - 1972

Richmond-Llandovery Estate was one the larger sugar estates on the north coast of St Ann where Dad had a series of jobs leading up to being the farms Accountant. A full-time housewife for the first time, Beryl watched over her four latest children as we grew from toddler through to prep-school, lively, imaginative and very playful. Mom and dad were good parents but there was never quite enough money and Beryl took to operating a little shop. That extra income helped a lot and then she boldly bought a going business -- a tavern, in Montego Bay (second city, tourist capital). That proved very profitable -- that sent her kids to high school and college. But at great sacrifice, for now she lived at her place of business sixty miles away and saw her family less. At about the same time Beryl bought the new business, Dad accepted a better offer from Drax Hall Estate on the other side of town and that summer we moved house together for the last time as a family.
